More Multi-leaf Traits

The advantages of multi-leaf alfalfas
1.   Higher leaf to stem ratio. Cut at the same time as trifoliate varieties and get the high quality necessary for top milk production or top dollar in the hay market. A small quality advantage can make the difference between putting up dairy quality hay or feeder hay.

2.   Geertson's multi-leaf varieties can be cut later than trifoliate varieties and still achieve dairy quality hay.
*If weather is a problem, you can delay cutting.
*Higher leaf to stem ratio, together with the more fluffy windrows due to the more mature stems, can hasten curing.
*More mature alfalfa has faster recovery after cutting and is less stressed which leads to better persistence and winter survival.

   *Cutting later can increase yield.

*More mature alfalfa will have more bypass protein and adequate stem fiber resulting in better rumen health.

3.   Extend your harvest window, harvest your trifoliate alfalfa first, and then the multi-foliate alfalfa.

While these individual advantages may be small, the sum of these will result in greater economic return in your Operation.
