| What
is Fall Dormancy & Disease Resistance
If you farm in the Northern regions and have sandy or granular soil,
Monument 2 will give you superior performance.
Use
Monument 2 for long rotations where winter hardiness
and stand persistence have been a problem. Monument 2 alfalfa
was developed largely from a germplasm release from the University
of Minnesota, selected for resistance to root lesion nematode. The
root lesion nematode is present in many lighter or sandy soils.
It has a wide host range which includes corn, cereals, clover, beets,
etc., therefore it cannot be controlled through crop rotations.
Sometimes this nematode can be so severe that it is difficult to
establish alfalfa, but it usually reduces yield without showing
serious symptoms. Chemical control is too expensive and not very
effective. Experimental Number 4321 Approved by the National
Alfalfa Variety Review Board 2000.
