| Hoody
is a beardless winter forage barley. Plant in late August or September,
graze over winter, then harvest a super barley hay or barley silage
crop in April or May with enough time to plant corn. In the fall of
2000 in the lower Snake River Valley we planted 50 acres of Hoody
Winter Barley in an old alfalfa stand about Sept. 10. That 50 acre
field of Hoody along with 28 acres of corn stubble kept 50 head of
cows from Nov. 1st until April 1st without any additional feed. The
winter was open with no snow cover and the temperatures were above
freezing most of the time. The Hoody Barley seemed to grow anytime
the temperature was above freezing. Barley hay or silage is higher
quality than oat, wheat or triticale hay or silage. |
